Casa Bonaparte

If you follow Via Mazzini from Piazza Matteotti towards Porta Romana, just before the Parish Church of Sant’Andrea you will come to the towering Casa Bonaparte on the right. It was once owned by the Buonaparte family, who moved to Sarzana in around 1245. Napoleon Bonaparte was descended from the Sarzana branch of the Buonaparte family: Francesco “il Mauro” Buonaparte of Sarzana was a mercenary serving the Bank of Saint George who established the Corsican branch of the family after moving to the island in 1490.
