Palazzo De Benedetti

The main façade of Palazzo De Benedetti looks out onto Piazza Matteotti. Although it has undergone substantial alterations over the years, the building still has some interesting features. Among them is the off-centre main door in the façade, which leads to the piano nobile and has the family coat of arms above it: a lion rampant with a crown and a palm. The highly sophisticated cornice is held up by brackets with decorative patterns. The atrium has chequered paving and a barrel vault ceiling. It contains three coloured terracotta statues depicting Dante, Petrarch and Ariosto, along with various materials that probably came from excavations in Luni.
